The end of this subject,
that means the summary of this subject......

First of all, before I study this subject, colors didn't affect me a lot. Because of I always don't know how to use and balance the proportion of colors. It always make my collection become vulgar and low graded. But I know color is very important for design development. So I avoided using sharp colors and continuous using black, white and grey for all of my collections.

After studied this subject, I learnt the definition between colors. Different color was made by different hue with different tint, tone and shades. Besides that, I learnt the theories of colors in order to develop a better color palette harmonic to each other.

Also, in the color collection exercise, I learnt the most important thing at that part. Because I am a weaker in color matching and balancing. This exercise helps me to indicate which color can be the main, which color just can be the accent and which color is indispensably needed in order to give life to the whole collection.

At the end, our group chose MARNI as the reference brand. I've tried to add a theme into the color palette. I hope every single color in the palette can be meaningful. Also, it test the taste of my own in color. Although I chose three violet as the main color, but I also hope the three main violet can give different feeling and outlook to my collection. So, at the end of this project, I hope I have chosen the right color for Marni. Also, I hope you enjoy my weblog.

All the best wishes to u in the future~~~~~
Indian Culture

Indian have a dark skin. In order to enchance the clothes from the dark skin, they always wear clothes with vivid color, such as red, sky blue, magenta, violet, orange and green. Indian like accessorized clothes, so they will always put on embroideries and trimings on the clothes. Also, gold color represent power and wealth. So most of their accessories are in gold color although it is not real gold.

Chinese culture

In china, red color represent joyous. All chinese believe that red color can give luck. So some of the chinese in ancient period will color the wall, door and pillars in red to pray for good luck and expel evil spirits.

Chinese will color all the things related to joy, such as marrige and Chinese new year festival.

Chinese will dress up in red in order to express the joyful of a ceremonious time.
The above is a picture taken at the Beijing Olympic.

The follwing picture show the joyful of the ladies in the Chinese New Year Festival.

Some of the star, in order to capture a Chinese feeling photo, they will put on a light make up but wear in a red clothes.

The coming color trend forecast of Marni

Dark, Chicago and Antique White 4 would the basic colours of the achromatic colours which Marni always uses in Fall collection to create one side of the contrast. The hit pink is the light pastel colour which can be used to go with the achromatic colours. All shades of pink get sophisticatd when combined with black or gray or medium of darker shades of blue.Gossamer and hot curry help giving some unnature colours, whileas the fresh orange red and cardinal add the drops of light and glamour to the whole collection.

The above is my group's color forecast, after analyzing the forecast I change a little to fit my own theme.

My theme is "Cassis"

Cassis is a kind of wine normally use to mix with other wine for cocktail. Some people will say that cassis is a kind of wine made of blackberry or blueberry. But acually cassis this name already represent a fruit and a French wine. Cassis is voilet in color with a very sweet taste.

Here is some photo research of blackberry, blueberry and cassis. In this photos, it inspire me the super sweet feelings from fruits and cassis. The color of the following photos are very sweet and yummy. It really help me to further develop the sweet and elegant fashion image of Marni.

After further develop from my group's color forecast, I keep the achromatic color, the three different value of grey color but i change the lightest grey to more natural instead of a bit warm. And I change the pink, turquose, blown and yellowish orange more vivid to be the accent color in this color pallete. And further develop three monochromatic violet color in different chroma and hue to be the main in this theme and color palette.

Here is my color palette
pantone color chart from the web
Here is my six design for Marni F/W 09-10
I designed six design for Marni F/W09-10, this all for young, sweet and elegant ladies. All of them are tight fit design in order to show the ladies' body figure. Gathers and pleats are added for details. This season, minis skirts and shorts are the main, ladies can mix and match with the hottest legging, silk socks, ankle boots and leather over knee long boots. Each of the items in the collection can mix and match together too.
The following is my color development ( similar as the classwork )
Acually, this is page one, I try to color the collection just by my own feeling and my inspiration. I tried some patterns. I did try to use all kind of color in the color palette and I did try not using them all too. Then, I try to use black, brown to color the main part first and then color other panel as an accent.
As you can see, this is my page two. I change the main part by using of violet and not more than three colors in a design but not including achromatic colors - grey. Also, in this page, I find some better method to mix and match with the colors and different parts of the outfit, such as same color with the belt and boots will give a pleasing to the eye. So I extent this method to my page three.
Here is my final page, in this page, I saw back page 1 and 2 in order to mark some design in good color matching first, then use the same mix and match method but in other colors. At the end, I chose the best six that I like the most.
Here is my final collection
By the way, because of I color them all by hand and then scan in the computer. I found that, some of them are dissimilar to my sketch. Actually, I use the three different tones of violet and color the collection by two of each violet as main parts of the design. Then, by matching them with grey and brown in order to conform the cognition of Fall / Winter 's outfit.
At the end, try to add and match the best accent color from the color palette to the outfit. I think this is the most important part of the collection. Because of Marni, Marni always give accent colors to give birth to the whole boring collection. I think this is the most treasure point I need to learn by Marni. Complementry and split complementry colors really really can live common things. Also, different hue and value of color can make the whole boring collection become interesting.
In the future time, I think i can easily analyze the color matching from different brands and try to develop others' theories to become my own new coloring method.

Classwork of Color History

Classwork of color a collection

I chose a monochromatic color - blue as the main color in this exercise and try to develop the theme "MARINE".
All of you may know why blue can represent marine, but why yellow, grey and pink????????
Long time age, in my childhood, I always listen a song called yellow submarine by Beatles. Because of my parents are Beatles' fans. So firstly, I think of marine, I will straightly think of yellow in color, but i think the real submarines are in grey color as a protective coloration. And pink color I chose as an accent in this collection.
In page one, I color the collection jusy by feeling and my own dressing experience. At the end of page one, I tried to use grey to color the main, most of the space.
In page two, continuously by page one, but this time I tried to color the main and most of the space with others color in the color family.
In page three, I absorbed and analyzed the experience before, tried to color them with color matching that pleasing to eye.
In the final page, I tried to distribute the accent color in a better proportion.

At the end, I got this color combination.
I like the light blue to be the main color with matching of blue and dark blue. And yellow and pink can highlight the attach parts or patch pockets in this design. Grey also very important to this collection, because of grey color can balance the yellow and pink not too vivid in this case.

This exercise is really very useful, as you can see the final product compare from the starting page. I think page one's combination really awful right now. Unbalance color proportion with dismatch colors low graded all the whole collection.
Further Colour Trend of Marni Fall ’09-10

According to Marni’s style from the past collections and the current financial situation of the world, it is estimated that the colour trend of Marni Fall ’09-10 would be like this:

We can see that in the latest collection, Marni Spring ‘09, has been the most colourful one in these few years. Oblivious to the financial crumblings and rumblings of the world, designer Consuelo Castiglioni decided to use a cheerful mixed prints, colors and transparent layers in the collection.

She loves to use offbeat contrasting colours, putting the aggressive(warm) colour and receding(cool) colours together in one outfit, for examples, the pale pink with the sliver, or the Yves Klein Blue with the sandy blown. Yet she can be able to balance them and keep the harmony of colors. And her creative use of colours brings people a sense of optimism and continuity.

In the recent fall collection of Marni, usually Consuelo Castiglioni would use the contrast of pastel colours with achromatic colours. We predict that this trend would still continue but with more splarking colours with interesting patterns and prints to create a even clearer contrast and happier mood. Because even though the society is in a chaos, Marni would still show people that fashion is fun.

Marni 's Background

Marni was founded in 1994 by the Castiglioni family, who wanted to carve a niche in the fashion universe not only as fur producers for the major designers, but with its own brand and label: Marni.

Consuelo Castiglioni began creating a women’s collection with precise attributes. Attributes that continue to be the hallmarks of the collection today: eclectic style, especially researched and refined materials, and a production quality that ensures garments maintain a tailored aspect. The whole infused with a creativity that makes Marni collections unique in the fashion landscape.

The eclectic style concepy is attested to by the fact that the earlier Hippy Chic collections can be mixed and matched with the latest collections in perfect harmony.

It's one of the highest accolades for any label when it can be said, by all and sundry, insiders and outsiders, that it "owns" a look. Marni has reached that serene plateau of development and is reveling in undisputed ownership of print, color, and the magpie mix-up. That means never having to grasp nervously for an extraneous trend. Downbeat dressing? Restraint and somber color? Not heard of here.Among her multi-textured, many-layered spots, stripes, blurry checks, painterly abstracts, harlequin lozenges, and splashy fifties flowers, Consuelo Castiglioni wove in an untrammeled sense of optimism and continuity. Her striped and frill-fronted cardigans; sparkly loop-fringe mini boleros; and dense, shimmery embroideries of multicolored spiky plastic paillettes were just some of the star moments. The bigger success, though, is how Castiglioni flings it all together, ties it up in the middle, adds a kneesock and a clunky platform, and yet still somehow manages to stop short of busy confusion. That simple/complicated knack is what keeps Marni lovers coming back for more, as well as the knowledge that the collection is a cherry picker's bonanza full of pieces that lend themselves to myriad personal styles.

In a season when "simplicity"—or, more accurately, a redefinition of the dead term "minimalism"—is preoccupying fashion debate, Consuelo Castiglioni filled in the blanks with color. She has a painterly eye for an offbeat choice of shades: dove gray against sugar pink, emerald with beige, sharp yellow and dusty mauve, muted pastels butting up against the odd shocking-bright hue. The shapes? Well, they were the lumpy-fit Marni classics that have unwittingly spawned a zillion cruder replicas: loose tunics, clunky cropped pants, quirky capes and dresses with sleeves cut to pouf out in unexpected directions.Layered up, it made a statement about color-blocked, tiered dressing and contrasting textures, topped off with dyed-fur gilets and capelets (a reminder of Marni's beginnings as a fur house). Truth to tell, there wasn't enough forward momentum in the clothes to break new ground—even in the prints, which were mainly limited to a couple of shadowy checks and a swirly pattern, possibly inspired by stained-glass windows. Still, the accessories picked up the slack: Stripe-printed tights and socks, leather gauntlets, nerdy-chic sunglasses, furry backpacks, sequined tie-on neckpieces, and open-toed platform knee boots were all quirky items that will keep the faithful very happy indeed.

Marni has evolved into a staple formula that has moved from the eccentric margins to become one of the brands upon which Italy's pride as a style leader rests. Consuelo Castiglioni's taste in arty textiles, lately sharpened up with an injection of shiny techno surfaces, is absorbed by the mainstream within nanoseconds—a double-edged compliment many designers would kill for. How's she reacting to that pressure? Apparently by blanking it.Instead of rushing forward, Castiglioni took the don't-mess-with-success approach for Spring. Her easy-on-the-body loose-waisted shifts with their wonky-but-right abstract gathers and tucks have been seen before, though each merits praise as a one-off canvas for an exceptional print. This time, the color register ran through forest-y and watery greens to purple, mustard, grays, browns, cornflower and iris blues—only interrupted by a short blast of fluorescent orange somewhere in the middle. That inevitably drew the restless eye to seek out the things that are different in this collection. Qualifiers in that category were the stark white dress with plastic stones implanted in the neckline, cute petaled cone hats, tinsel bags, and the sharp half-moon sunglasses, which might jolt the market for giant face-covering shades in a new direction. Otherwise, Castiglioni didn't seem overly concerned with breaking too much new ground. That's sound from a brand-consistency point of view, though it slightly dashed the hopes of a crowd hungry for stop-the-press news out of Milan.

Legion are the women who want to be in the Marni-girl gang these days. On the runway, designer Consuelo Castiglioni's knack for layering up sporty-techno bits and pieces with shiny black PVC and odd shots of bright color and print is pushing this label out in front as one of the most refreshing forces in fashion. Last summer, she simply put sport-leggings under her favorite tunics, and the world ran after her. Now that she's sneaking elements of technical outdoorsy clothing into her wardrobe, the same thing will happen again. One glance at Marni's genius nylon platform-soled ski boots will set off a fan avalanche, guaranteed. It's partly the designer's talent for striding ahead without breaking continuity that does it. Her Marni girl has often been typecast as an eclectic, original spirit, but Castiglioni's no woolly thinker: She follows her ideas through from one season to the next, and people love her for it. Thus, she's playing with the same sort of shapes, like plain loose tunics and gray parallel pants, but is now mixing them up with nylon T-shirts, neoprene vests, PVC skirts, and down linings, then cinching it all in with a hefty webbing belt. If this sounds a bit of a mess, it's not—the really clever part is that the cheerfully arty charm of Marni carries it all along. This season it's there in the bright, multicolored marbled prints; the color blocking of magenta, royal blue, and green; the shaggy beaver and goat-hair coats. In the end, Marni achieves a unique, offbeat glamour along with a life-enhancing playfulness that is irresistible.

My opinion of Marni

Do u wanna be a sweet beauty???
I think Marni can really help you!!!

Candy tone with offbeat color accomodate both together with layering mix and match. Also, straight silhouette with circle cut show the eclectic feeling of female.

In the s/s 09 collection, monochromatic vs offbeat color make the collection being playful and funny. With different hue of colors, perfectly match together to give a happy mood.
